Karate Girl vs Street Fighter Guy
Ok she is definitely a sport point fight Karate competitor. I’m not so sure he is a “street fighter” but whatever.
It is a skilled female against an unskilled man.
It is important to note that her background in point scoring Karate has given her both some good qualities and some bad habits. I’ll break them down.
Karate Girl Good Traits
She is quick and has great timing!
She keeps a wide and low stance which you hear me talk about all of the time.
Her Karate stance is a little more sideways than I would prefer but hey let’s not nitpick what works for her.
Her timing is really good on her entries. She catches this guy as he steps in on multiple occasions. She also is good about lunging in with speed.
She controls the pace of the fight by keeping distance which is what Rapids Assault Tactic’s “lunging range” is all about.
Overall she is a really good outside range fighter.
Karate Girl Bad Habits & Areas for Improvement
For the record she may have zero interest in my suggestions but this isn’t for her it is for you as a street-ready fighter not a point scoring Karate competitor.
No Guard / Reckless Entries
When she lunges in to attack she has no concept of defending herself. She goes all in.
The problem is she is used to scoring a point and then the ref stops the action and resets the fighters.
But in a real violent fight you will be getting punched at before, during, and after your attack so you better have a plan to avoid punches as you enter.
The ways that you can think about defending yourself are:
Picking Poor Targets
She weighs 108 lbs and he weighs 154. When she is attacking his body and legs it has zero impact on him.
She even lands multiple punches to his face but it barely phases him.
If she targeted her kicks to his testicles and turned her face punches into eye strikes then the fight would have been over very quickly!
Of course there were probably rules against doing those things in this match but for you in the street go for the eyes and testicles.
No Clenching or Ground Fighting Skills
She gets knocked down several times because she has no standing clench game.
Also she doesn’t know what to do on the ground. Luckily her opponent did not know what to do either so she got off lucky there.
Street Fighter Guy
Ok he probably isn’t a street fighter they just called him that for some reason.
He looks like a guy that practices some kicks but has never practiced martial arts with any pressure because he didn’t know how to fight. Fortunate for her!
His biggest opportunities – aside from the fact that he needs to train – are that he didn’t take advantage of the opportunities that he had.
On several occasions he had her off balance or on the ground and he let her go. He didn’t use his size or strength.
He didn’t use aggression to overpower her skill.
And ultimately he had no killer instinct to go in to finish her off when she was vulnerable.
Conclusion
At the end of the day there were some good lessons to take away from this from both fighters. Both what she did good and bad and his missed opportunities.
As this fellow found out you won’t perform to your expectations you will fall to the level of your training and he clearly didn’t have correct training.
