What is Jugging?
Jugging is a type of crime where criminals will hang out at banks or ATMs or similar places where you are getting money or goods.
They will follow you home or to your next location and then jump out of their vehicle and rob you once you stop.
It is quick, it is a surprise, and they are looking for people who are unaware.
How to Prevent Jugging
Prevention is the best form of self-defense.
And awareness is the best form of prevention.
Develop Awareness
So my number 1 tip is always be aware of any cars and people when you go places. Especially banks, ATMs, and similar locations.
Also you want to start thinking like a criminal…
Where is a good ambush spot if you were going to jump out and surprise someone.
Now you will look for those spots and be aware of them everywhere you go.
Remember there are more crimes to worry about than jugging.
Don’t Take Criminals to Your Home
If you suspect you are being followed then do NOT go home!
You do NOT want criminals to know where you live.
And you do NOT want your home – which is supposed to be your place of peace and comfort – to be a place where you always remember that you were victimized.
Instead drive around randomly. Make lots of turns and see if you are still being followed.
If you make 4 right turns and the car is still following you then odds are you are being followed.
Immediately call 911 and drive towards the nearest police station.
Escape!
If you do park your car and criminals run up trying to rob you I can only tell you what I would do.
I would not comply.
I would keep my doors locked and not open them.
I would tell other people in the car to duck as I punched the accelerator.
I would try to hit at least one of the criminals so that hopefully he had to go to the hospital.
That way after I call 911 the police will look for a man hit by a car at the local hospitals and they can catch him and his accomplices.
Keep Your Doors Locked
Always keep your car doors locked.
From the moment you get in to just before you get out the doors should be locked.
I had a friend years ago who violated this rule.
She had just left the gym and was sitting in her car with the doors unlocked.
Just then she saw a man run up to her car door, open it, jump in the passenger side and point a gun at her head.
He told her to drive.
This wasn’t a jugging… He was being chased by the police.
Right then a police officer ran up to the window and fired 3 shots inside the car and killed the man.
It turns out that man and his 2 cousins had just robbed a store and murdered a father and his 2 year old daughter.
My friend was ok aside from being cut with some broken glass and having the criminal’s blood on her.
Oh and her car was taken as police evidence and she never got it back and insurance won’t cover that… Sucks huh?
Want to prevent all of that?
Awareness and keep your stinking doors locked.
What NOT To Do During a Jugging
Do NOT Unlock Your Doors
As soon as you do they will yank them open and pull you out.
You will be at their complete mercy. If you are lucky the only thing that will happen is you will lose your money.
Don’t Draw Your Concealed Handgun and Get Into a Gun Fight
You are stuck sitting down. You can’t move. You can’t take cover. You are a sitting duck.
Anyone else in your car is also a sitting duck.
That is why driving off is the best plan. Get out of there ASAP just like the man in the video did.
Summary
It is way better to prevent jugging than to try and escape or fight it.
Awareness is key.
Keep your doors locked at all times.
If you think you are being followed, make a bunch of turns to see if you are still being followed.
If you are, call 911 and drive towards the nearest police station.
Never drive home, to your work, or to a friends house, or frankly anywhere you frequent if you think you are being followed.
If you are being jugged and are still in your car, hit the accelerator and drive away quickly.
Bonus points… literally if you hit one of the juggers because that will likely send them to the hospital where the police can arrest them.
As always train your body and your mind to be a warrior.
Until next time,
Brian
