We aren't so concerned with belts and traditions, in fact, we are not concerned with them at all. What we are concerned with is teaching real people how to survive real situations. Asocial violence is all around us; violent crimes such as rape, assault, home invasion, car jacking, muggings, etc. are on the news nightly. Chances are you know more than one person who has had one of these crimes happen to them.
I personally believe that every law abiding citizen should know how to defend themselves, their loved ones and other innocent people. As Edmund Burke famously said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
My instructor Paul Vunak back in the late 80s showing the difference
between sport and traditional martial arts vs. street effective survival.
What We Teach
There are 3 main types of fights you might find yourself in:
1. On your feet
2. On the ground
3. A weapons fight
Within those 3 types of fights you have various scenarios such as multiple attackers, the sucker punch, an violent drunk, home invasion, car jacking, rape/assault, etc.
Some of the topics we cover are:
The easiest way to stop wild swinging punches and kicks
The best ground defense, period!
How to beat someone with a knife or a club
How to find and use weapons of opportunity to defend yourself
Realistic ways to disarm a gun wielding assailant
The realities of asocial violence and how to counter them
Defense against various rape scenarios
Defending against home invasion
Parking lot attack
Defending the sucker punch
Multiple attackers
Real ground fighting, illegal in sport combat
Using lethal force when absolutely necessary (saving your life)
How to use non-lethal force if possible (controlling suspects or the drunk friend)
Cheating to win so you don't have to be bigger, stronger, faster or more skilled than your attacker
Degrees of aggression, how to deal with a drunk agitator versus a violent attacker.
I will teach the same systems that Paul Vunak teaches to the Navy's SEAL Team Six and law enforcement agencies around the country
Background of Our System
Paul demonstrates techniques from his Enigma training video,
shows that a 78 year old man can use this system
and speaks candidly about his experience training the Navy SEALs
Our system of Martial Arts and Self-Defense carries a proud lineage. Originally founded by the late great Bruce Lee and handed down through Dan Inosanto to Paul Vunak, and now I count myself among a proud group of certified instructors who continue this legacy.
Lee was obsessed with developing a method of fighting that was practical and teachable. Through his decades of study he discovered that systems need to adapt to the individual and no single style or system is perfect.
Lee created Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is not a set system or style but a philosophy of how to approach Martial Arts training. The system must change to meet the needs of the individual.
"Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always
more important than any established style or system."
- Bruce Lee
Lee trained in every art he could and then would whittle away the useless techniques that didn't work for him or his students. I continue this strategy, a 110 lb woman may not be able to pull off the same move her 215 lb husband can, but she may find something that works better for her.
What Paul Vunak did was take the most combative and simple to apply tools from Jeet Kune Do and put them into a system that is effective without decades of Martial Arts practice. Read more on the FAQs section.
With my background in Martial Arts and teaching, I take the system and disseminate it to regular folks who want to learn to defend themselves in the quickest most practical way without having to spend 5 hours per week for the next 10 years practicing Martial Arts.
When it comes to defending yourself or loved ones in a life and death scenario we pull no punches. Biting, eye gouges, weapons, strikes to vital areas and other violent means at our disposal are all fair game. Now remember our paradigm, we are about to be a victim unless we act and act decisively. God forbid you are ever in a truly life or death scenario, but if you are, I want you to go home to be with your spouse and kids, that is why I teach what I teach.
Many Martial Arts and Military Systems have had an influence on what we do and we pick and chose the best and most combative techniques from them. Muay Thai, boxing, Krav Maga, Jujitsu, Kinimutai, Escrima/Kali, Savate, Wing Chun Kung Fu and various locking arts just to name a few. We are not beyond learning a new technique and implementing it if it works.
